So far in the first few chapters of this book, ive found one way i could really understand how the character felt. When Philip's track coach tells him that he can't try out for the team because he failed english, i understood how that felt because i practice a sport really hard every day, so its dissapointing when my coach doesnt pick me to do something important for the team. Philip is the best runner in the school, but its the rule that he cant try out because of his grades. I felt bad for him because even though he tried his hardest and practiced track, he still cant try out.

My favorite character in this book is Philip Malloy. I like him because he is funny and keeps everything interesting for the teachers and the other students. The way the book is written, as dialouge between the characters or diary entries, really allows philips's full personality to be expressed as a class clown. He has some trouble with school, but he can always find a way to make a joke about it.

Why do you think Philip and Ms. Narwin dont get along well?

I think since Ms. Narwin is sort of old fashioned, and kinda strict, her uptight kind of personality doesnt go along well with Philip's class clown type personality. This makes Ms. Narwin angry because its not the type of kid shes used to dealing with.

1. Yeah, it kind of sucks that he can't try out for track, but he needs to try to keep his grades up too.
2. He is a pretty happy guy and he's good at track too, but he isn't even trying to bring his grades up that hard either.
3. I think that they don't get along because Philip is = kind of obnoxious and doesn't like literature, and Ms. Narwin is prim and proper and loves literature.
1. I agree that its sad because he isn't allowed to try out for the track team, but its his own fault that he is failing.
2.My favorite character in this book is Philip Malloy too. i agree that he is really funny and keeps the teachers occupied. i like how the book is written in a script format because it shows what is going on throughout the story.
3. I think Philip and Ms.Narwin are like another sporty student and teacher, they hate each other because they don't have anything in common and are disgusted by the way each other act.
